Starting from the first contact with sociocybernetics in the 70s and the introduction of the "Theory of Information" course within the grouping of classical studies (in Italy the first teacher in this field was Achille Ardigò) to the matching of sociocybernetics with Artificial Intelligence and Expert Systems in the 80s, the paper runs back through a still fruitful interdisciplinary path for sociology and communication studies, leading to the spreading of social network sites, which provide a new milieu for communication and its working. Today, sociocybernetics is requested to accept the challenge of the changing times, as it holds theoretical and conceptual instruments to face them.
