This essay tackles the relationship between the object and the work in A. Danto’s philosophy of art. In particular, the essay considers whether: 1) works of art are always "separate" from what they represent (against the avant-garde, Danto defends the "difference" between art and reality); 2) they are semi-opaque objects, transparent and opaque at the same time; 3) as in Adorno, they are "paradoxical", because through something that is real appears something that is not "real". According to these considerations Danto distinguishes between disturbing and disturbational art: the former works inside the borders of art, without calling them into question, the latter strives instead to overcome the difference between art and reality.

Keywords: Adorno, Aesthetics, Danto, Disturbing/Disturbational Art, Indiscernibles, Opacity/Trasparency.
