The author presents three hypotheses favoring the idea of novelty. 1) The couple psyche is not the exclusive product of the partner’s individual psyche but is the creation of a specific psychical process. 2) The Couple crisis is animated by original functioning because it could not be explained by its usual structure. 3) It has its own specificity in regard to other crisis: the expression of open acute and manifest conflicts that relate to gender differences. Therefore, the author describes the theoretical conceptions of the crisis and its manifestations when it reaches the couple. Even if the couple is deeply touched, it can come out of the crisis, strengthened. Crisis reveals failures of the recognition of the partner as being different. These ideas are illustrated by some description of a psychoanalytic couple therapy.
