This article proposes an examination of the main models of social reporting currently available in Italy in order to examine their contribution to a different interpretation of the concept of social quality of the development. By analysing eight social reporting methodologies, we seek to investigate the possible keys of interpretation that social accountability may offer for the construction of a different representation of the concept of development from a communicative, organizational and institutional perspective, and for the definition of new organizational strategies. The results of the study emphasize the limits, the contradictions and the opportunities of social reporting practices as tools for the representation of the concept of development.
