Intermunicipal cooperation is a topical issue, mainly within the framework of a global reform in urban and territorial planning. In this paper a small theoretical overview on this matter is provided, followed by an analysis of the state of the art in some Italian Regions (with some mentions to the European situation). At the end, the author brings forward some remarks about the role of intermunicipal cooperation in the building up of urban and land plans in Italy, also considering its potential.
