The clinical observations of Winnicott, Kohut and Bion had emphasized the role of the caregiver for the emotional and personal development. Following the findings of Bowlby, M. Ainsworth showed how the constitution of an efficient inner working model depends on maternal responsiveness toward the expectations and needs of the child. Today we possess more refined methods of observation of the relation between caregiver and child. These observations can be transformed into still more refined possibilities of therapeutic intervention, and so can offer the possibility of a dialogue between attachment theory and bioenergetic analysis.

Keywords: Attachment, mentalisation, inner working models, reflective function, body, bioenergetic analysis
