Reflecting on the relationship between analytical psychology and spirituality is to move on a marshy and uncertain ground, full of obstacles that can lead to the building of frameworks of reference which are misleading with respect to clinical practice. But, conversely, the concepts of spirit and meaning can help to know something about the psyche that we would miss otherwise, keeping in mind that, as Jung says, we are talking of intangible psychic dimensions, of hypothesis that can not be hypostatized. In a Jungian perspective, it can be assumed that the vicissitudes of the psyche occur in the energetic field produced by the fundamental antinomy between spirit and instinct, two essential molecules of the psyche, and that spirit, intended as meaning, is a mental ineradicable function, a sensor for singularity or, if we prefer, for individuation.
