This paper examines a very often underreported subject in action research literature: the crucial role that emotions play in fieldwork. Although participants’ and researchers’ emotions are referred to very often in action research literature, this theme still lacks of a systematic analysis and theoretical reflection. In this paper we explore the role of emotions in action research through two analytical frameworks: the psychodynamic and the constructivist approaches. We also analysis the emotions that can raise along the research process and that can have different nuances according to the role played by the actors (researchers or partici- pants). In the conclusion we present some reflections related to the importance of taking into account emotions in action research.
