The birth, growth and decadence of the bourgeois family is here taken into consideration analyzing some famous novels belonging to the European literature in a period of time running from the middle ’700 until nowadays. The geographical space where the family was born is where the modern society was born first: that is England and France. Only during the twentieth century the spreading of the bourgeois way of life has produced meaningful works of art even in other European countries and in the Usa.
