No established tradition for a philosophy of Molecular Medicine exists nowadays. In this paper, the authors sketch out a foundational framework for deeper future studies, and delineate the basis for a wide and systematic foundational project for Molecular Medicine. To do so, they point out areas of analysis and relative strategies to approach some of the most important problems which tackle the foundations of this discipline, namely: genetic information and pathology, model organisms, translation and transition from molecular medicine (at the bench) to clinical medicine (at the bedside), evidence-based medicine and theories of evidence in medicine. Wherever possible, the authors suggest also possible solutions, and by doing so they point the direction to pursue further in order to set philosophy of molecular medicine on a proper theoretical ground.
