This paper examines the influence of institutional reforms aimed at strengthen the relationships among small and medium firms in Italy, in the light of the recent provisions known as "network agreement" (contratto di rete). Our aim is to study the relevance of the "network agreement" as an instrument to stimulate firms into becoming a member of a network. Using data achieved from an ad hoc survey, we show that the network agreement can set forth the relationship between firms, facilitating the cooperation among partners, allowing the internalization of both profits and positive externalities, otherwise scattered in the market.
