The Author develops a critical perspective of the concept of Governance: in particular, focuses on the conceptual relationship between Nation State and Governance in order to show the limits of Governance processes. The dialectic of State Governance is applied to both the international scenario and the scenario of the theory of power. In the first, the Author utilizes the concept of Nation State as a key to understanding the failures of Global Governance. In the second scenario, introduces a Bourdieusian view of State as the holder of symbolic power, with the intention to bring out a new perspective on the concept of State and to make the concept of Symbolic Power a tool capable of revealing the authoritarian risks underlying the processes of Governance. The Author concludes with a brief analysis of the relationship between Governance and Foucault’s concept of Governmentality, the latter being useful in clarifying the reorganization and relocation of power in complex societies.
