Illusion and consolation Starting from Freud’s historical work, The Future of an Illusion, the Author’s intent, much more limited, is to reflect on the actual function of illusions, with reference to the present relationship between faith and psychoanalysis and mainly, for obvious historical reasons, to the Judeo-Christian matrix, as far as the resurgence of a "need of religiosity" in modern Western culture is concerned, even within the small psychoanalytic community.

Keywords: Illusion, consolation, guilt, omnipotence, primary narcissism, alterity.
