Ancona’s economy has been characterized by shipbuilding industry since Middle Ages. There are two shipbuilding industries: one big and one small. The big one is the papal arsenal (today Fincantieri Factory), the small one was born in Twentieth century and is composed of three enterprises (Morini, Castracani, Cooperativa Tommasi). Big and small shipbuilding industries are different in dimension of enterprises, products, markets and ownership. However, they have often interwoven their histories in the field of work.
