The sociologists from Pavia University describe the results of empirical research conducted in the framework of the "Dedalo Project", involving the Regional Government of Sicily’s offices responsible for job procurement and training advice ("Multipurpose Offices") and processing the data collected as a result. In practice, the first impact between these offices and young immigrants reveals that there are cultural gaps and a lack of language skills. Practical measures therefore need to be taken in these fields. A regional networked database (together with a prototype of a custom-designed terminal) was presented to the Sicilian authorities and to the participants in the second "Dedalo Project" conference held in Monreale. Finally, the data analysis enabled a series of practical proposals to be made, which the Regional administration should adopt to improve both job training and placement for young immigrants.
