Jean Paul Richter‘s moderately sentimental and romantic skepticism underwent a more radical interpretation in the reading of Carlo Dossi and his theory of modern literature as a blend of skepsis and humour. However, through Jean Paul‘s original interpretation in his Vorschule der Aesthetik, Dossi borrows some aspects of romantic aesthetics: the Self and the Double, which are the outstanding characters in the works of both writers, stem from the categories of infinitity, totality and subjectivity.
