Why worry about the presence of the mafia in Northern Italy? One of the most important and painful reasons is that we are convinced that if we too do not concern ourselves about them, the mafia has already been concerning itself about us for some time now: land, the use of it, the planning regulations, local governance rules, local institutions, political arenas, our guilty silences and our lack of attention to civil and environmental issues. It moves masterfully and rapidly in the field of urban planning.

Keywords: Mafia; urban planning; civic responsibility
