The attempt to update and redesign the profile of the continental sport system can be considered a feedback to the White Paper published in 2007 by the EU Commission. Although presenting heuristic and scientific limitations, the document, chronologically situated between the first expansion towards the East of EU and the Lisbon Treaty, while failing as the original project of the European Constitution, has, in any case, the merit of undertaking sport as an issue requiring a new status and, indeed, connected to the widest issue of integration. The article, showing some results of a comparative research led at a continental range aims at deepening (i) the dynamics of change involving the national sports systems as an effect of policy regulations devoted to support sport for all and characterized according different welfare systems; (ii) the relation between national sports models and high performance results according to the findings regarding the London Olympic Games 2012.
