The article focuses on the inquiry into political repression and forced labour in Mao’s China that the Cicrc began in 1952. Headed since its foundation by David Rousset, the Cicrc gathered documentation that in 1956 was discussed in Brussels during a “trial” against the Chinese Communist regime. The Livre blanc on China, alongside David Rousset’s papers, represent a set of primary sources which contribute to the history of transnational human right networks during the first Cultural Cold War.
