Theoretical concepts, projects and realizations, treated in the article, after more than a century of evidence relating to "participation" of the architectural project, are intended to bring a renewed attention to the theme of the inscrutability of the individual dimension of life. The author reflects on the complexity, often mysterious, of the domestic universe, addressing criticism towards the prescriptive "modern project", today, more than ever, inadequate to deal with the plurality of the "ways of life" and with the extreme articulation of demand for housing.
