In this work the Authors introduce the figure of W. Clifford Scott, a Canadian psychiatrist and psychoanalist (1903-1997). They propose the translation of a chapter from his own autobiography, telling the story of his training as an analyst at the British Psychoanalytical Society in the London of the Thirties, where he was Melanie Klein’s first analytical trainee. With her, who was also his teacher and supervisor, Scott entertained a long lasting and intense relationship, yet not free from conflicts. He contributed, both with the material brought in analysis and with his own writings, to Klein’s studies on psychotic patients and to the birth of the concept of projective identification.

Keywords: W. Clifford Scott, Melanie Klein, autobiography, history of psychoanalysis, canadian psychoanalysis, kleinian theory of projective identification.
