The article presents the new town of Zhengdong, designed in 2001 as the addition of the Henan’s capital Zhengzhou: one million of new inhabitants, over 150 km2 of new built space, a new Central Business District and, above all, a new high speed railway station. Zhengdong is part of the empowering of the infrastructure system in inland China. Although today Zhengdong is for its major past still not inhabited, the urban expansion does not stop: Zhengbian, designed between 2006 and 2009, will extend on about 300 km2, aggregating many other small and large cities. Exploring Zhengdong is an inquiry on the strengthening of the inland China and on the role of the Rise of Central China Plan in promoting Zhongyuan as one of the richest and largest Chinese conurbations.
