This introduction aims at focusing on the main territorial transformations that characterize, in a paradigmatic and extreme way, Civita di Bagnoregio. This narrative goes through the main steps of this transformative dynamic: the depopulation of the village as a result of the industrialization process that ended up destroying the productive relationship with the surrounding agricultural land; the new forms of urban re-appropriation of the village and the resulting aesthetization processes of Civita landscape; the touristic discovery of Civita with its commodification and museification effects. This transformative trajectory, from the abandonment to the touristic reinvention, is the plot that connects the different contributions of this section.
