The article examines the development of the historiography on Alcide De Gasperi from the 1970s to the present day, with particular attention to the interactions between the political and intellectual debate and the evolution of historical studies. The essay adopts a diachronic approach. It identifies the most important moments for the formation of the historiographic interpretations in the 1970s and in the 2000s. Finally, the article reflects on the possibility of singling out a turning point in a tradition of studies that has lasted for over forty years.
