The Author aims to deepen the role of some technical aspects of the psychoanalytical situation. These, through a limitation of the personal traits of the analyst, enhance the analytical functions. By mean of a clinical episode, the Author highlights how difficult is for the analyst to pinpoint his own narcissistic deviation, which could take place during the patient-analyst interaction.

Keywords: Negative capability, psychoanalytical techniques, narcissism of the analyst.
