The publication of a new, expanded and commented edition of Michael Balint’s classic work The Doctor, his Patient and the Illness, more than seventy years after the first, has inspired the author for this connection. Aware of the importance it has for many physical and mental health professionals: doctors in the first place, but also nurses, psychologists and social workers, she discusses the relevance of the Balint model, in the light of the many social, cultural and technological changes that have occurred in the meantime, finding it intact and perhaps even increased.
