Two recent books offer new insights on Italian labour history: Il lavoro delle donne nell’Italiacontemporanea, by Alessandra Pescarolo and Precari e precarie: una storia dell’Italiarepubblicana, by Eloisa Betti. Both propose an important change of perspective with respectto the dominant tradition in the Italian labour history: the point of view of women and theprecarious condition becomes the ground where a new interpretation of the general story ofwork in Contemporary Italy appears possible. These books provide ideas of extreme interestfor further historical studies, not only in the field of labour history, but for the historians ofsociety, family, law, economics, culture.
