This article provides the theoretical background for this Special Issue which explores the cultural dimensions of neoliberalism from a sociological perspective. The article also presents key insights offered in the seven articles selected for the Special Issue, concerning the production of the entrepreneurial self, the role of digital media and platforms, and resistances, contradictions and failures of neolib-eralism, observed in various dimension of social and individual life: education and collaborative production of public knowledge, health care and wellbeing, affective politics, work and consumption in the frame of platform capitalism, participation in urban policies.
