Grief is a universal experience mainly associated with a spontaneous resolution. However, several studies demonstrate that being exposed to a loss can increase risks of depression and that this association is stronger when the loss occurs in traumatic circumstances, which could interfere with the elaboration process and the normal grief resolution, reducing the ability to accept the loss. The aim of this work is to consider the central role of funerals in helping the elaboration processing, focusing on the current Covid-19 global pandemic, in which social distancing measures prevent the possibility of celebrating funerals. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to analyse the possible consequences of this impediment on the psychological dynamics connected with the elaboration of grief.

Keywords: Grief; trauma; Covid-19; elaboration process; psychotherapy; acceptance.
