Digital technologies hybridization has made boundaries and evolutionary dynamics of industry platforms so fuzzy that literature started to talk about industry platforms ecosystem. By analysing industry platforms developments, the study aims to investigate future competitive scenarios in which competition will take place among holographic industry platforms. Although the phenomenon of industry platform has been under the spotlight of managerial studies for the last twenty years, still missing is a general framework that highlights industry platform’s holographic properties and how an industrial platform can diversify its business by attacking and entering in new markets. With this holographic reading we highlight the possibility for industry platform to diversify its business through economies of variety and through dominant logics. The research contributes by investigating the diversification strategies put in place by industry platforms. After a pervasive literature review and aiming to prevent the holographic industry platforms from becoming an empty concept, the study critically discusses phenomenon by relevant case studies.
