Maurizio Torrini (Florence, 1942-2019), who joined in 1980 the Università di Napoli as professor of History of science, devoted several works to the methodology of this discipline and to its 19th century developments in Italy. In a series of contributions reprinted in a posthumous volume, which collects essays on Galileo’s thought and its modern and contemporary reception (hence the title, Galileo nel tempo, Florence 2020), we read more critical reflections on the methodological bases of some recent and questionable interpretative schemes applied to Galileo and, more in general, on the scientific revolution.
