People with disability are almost invisible in migration processes, despite being exposed to increasing risks of negative discrimination. Their multiple discrimina-tion is often implicit, hidden in mainstream institutional and juridical praxes, hardly perceived as such by its very victims. All this makes it hard to recognize it properly and even to produce knowledge about it. The international literature is limited and highly specialized, mostly with a medical approach. Likewise, empiri-cal research is limited, including in Italy. This article is an introduction to a spe-cial section on Disability and migration: Empirical research in Italy. It draws a preliminary map of the 'how' and 'where' of disadvantage accumulation in social space. It is meant to outline the boundaries of an interdisciplinary research field that is worth elaborating further, with a view to a better understanding of intersec-tional 'disabilitation' and to more effective care policies and practices.
