Emanuele Ciaceri and the feast of S. Agata The essay provides a historical introduction to Emanuele Ciaceri’s essay, The feast of Sant’Agata and the ancient cult of Isis in Catania, published in the «Archivio Sto-rico per la Sicilia Orientale» in 1905 and re-proposed in this issue. The interpretative lines and the sources used are reconstructed, as well as the historiographical impact. The investigation of the Sicilian scholar remains a lesson in the trade, due to the refined philological, historical and archaeological skills brought into play in the elaboration of his thesis on the Etna festival. Surely his conservative orientation, which will materialize later in his adherence to fascism, has conditioned its theoretical horizon in ideological terms, determining to a large extent the results of his research.

Keywords: Ciaceri, Sicily, Cult, Feast, Historiography.
