This literature review analyses the recent international studies on Fascist military institutions. It discusses the peculiarities of international scholarship comparing it to Italian studies, spe- cifically focusing on crucial subjects: the relationship between foreign policy and war, a def- inition of the grand strategy of Mussolini’s regime, and a reappraisal of the Italian military effectiveness. Finally, it will seek to underline the specificities of international literature com- pared to Italian hitsoriography.
