The article aims at providing the main results that emerged from the “Ask me how I am” survey carried out by the SPI CGIL at the national level with the involvement of over 30,000 students throughout the country. In the tradition of action-research, the survey starts from the voice of the students to develop interpretative patterns by directly activating the recipients of the observation produced. In addition to outlining the value and trust dimension of the students under observation and understanding some socio-personal characteristics, the survey analyses the impact of the pandemic on students’ mental health, emotional conditioning and the onset of risk behaviours. Specific attention is also dedicated to how distance learning has been experienced and how it has changed the relationship with educational institutions and relationships with peers and with adults. Finally, the article ends by highlighting the possible spaces for discussion through which to build intergenerational bridges of collaboration between pensioners’ unions and students’ unions.
