Shopping malls are large environments, whose disproportionate shape, together with the distribution of the furnishings, does not allow the establishment of a diffuse field within the space and therefore does not make it possible to determine a univocal sound propagation curve. The present work aims at analyzing the acoustic effectiveness resulting from the installation of metal panels hanging from the ceiling in the commercial gallery of Terminal 1 at Leonardo Da Vinci Airport in Fiumicino. The acoustic analysis of the current state was carried out by acoustic measurements of reverberation time and spatial decay of sound pressure levels per distance doubling. These investigations made it possible to compare the current state with normative reference values, as well as to carry out the calibration of a simplified three-dimensional acoustic model. The inclusion of the design panels within the acoustic model made it possible to determine the expected acoustic benefit, in terms of increase in DL2 index, and the achievement of 3 dB in the intermediate range.
