The topic of generic Fascism has been at the centre of the historiographical debate since the years between the two world wars. This article analyses the interpretations provided by studies published during the centenary of the March on Rome, within the framework of the last twenty years’ historiographical trends. In this historiography a praxeological reading of Fascism took shape, focused on violence and intolerance, where Fascism was described as a global and trans-historical hybrid phenomenon, between revolution and reaction, and closely linked to conservative and nationalist movements. The author expresses doubts about this historiographical approach, arguing that not only it risks making the phenomenon of Fascism impalpable, but it also brings the scientific debate back to the old political controversy of the years between the two world wars and those immediately after.
