This study reviews current evidence and therapeutic approaches for treating Feeding and Eating Disorders (FEDs), focusing on Anorexia Nervosa (AN), Bulimia Nervosa (BN), and Binge Eating Disorder (BED). Key therapeutic goals include increasing awareness of emotional and relational difficulties, improving specific psychopathological symptoms, normalizing eating behaviors and weight, and supporting families. Enhanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT-E) emerges as the most researched and recommended treatment for AN and BN, with demonstrated effectiveness in BED as well. However, CBT-E has shown variable results regarding complete remission, with rates ranging from 37% to 55%. Other approaches, such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Metacognitive Interpersonal Therapy (MIT-ED), show promising results, particularly for patients with emotional dysregulation and maladaptive interpersonal schemas. Pharmacological treatment, while useful, has limited efficacy and requires further research. In summary, an integrated approach that considers comorbidity and underlying psychopathological factors is crucial for improving adherence and treatment outcomes.
