Through snapshots, this paper provides an overview of the Sacco Valley, offering insights into the outcomes of a century of development policies with different and occasionally conflicting rationales. These policies have shaped the landscape, and they constitute an intangible infrastructure where power, politics, hopes, opportunities and disillusionment have intertwined, leaving traces in the elements scattered across a territory, where the river constitutes an axis of convergence and a direction of structure. The snapshots propose a heuristic method and open up fields of indepth study on which to base a synthesis of living practices in the Valley and direct its transformation.
