How can public intervention in the space economy achieve greater levels of efficiency? The model of public-private collaboration is undoubtedly one of the paths with the highest probability of success. It can be realised in various ways. One can revert to public procurement, but above all one can intervene through the instrument of partnership, in ways that are gradually more innovative and capable of responding to the peculiarities of the sector under consideration. This article explores the potential of the so-called joint undertaking (or joint venture) instrument in the space sector in the framework of European treaties and the programme Horizon Europe, considering it a possible way forward for the above-mentioned exploratory objectives.
Keywords: space, partnership, joint undertaking, EU, research.
