Food districts are important tools to enhance traditional agrifood products but also agricultural practices, knowledge and identity values of the territory. These new territorial aggregations also represent an opportunity to consolidate the link between food and the rural landscape, as well as to protect the local economy, the identity, historical and cultural dimensions of a territory. In this paper, the author intends to illustrate, through landscape and territorial lens, the results of an analysis conducted on the food districts recently established in Piedmont, with the aim of supporting regional and local policies in defining effective tools to strengthen the link between food and territory, and strengthen local food systems. Through the analysis of the governance system, the main environmental components and the policies operating on these territories, the paper highlights some critical issues of the settlement and agricultural-productive system, but also the complexity and potential of these new forms of territorial aggregation, based on the strengthening of public-private partnerships and short supply chains.
