Egòruška’s journey in The Steppe unfolds as a space of crossing in which solitude, ambivalence, and separation gradually transform into inner movement. Chekhov’s narrative, devoid of consolatory resolutions, weaves a texture of evocations that resonates with the principles of Ericksonian hypnotic language: indirect suggestion, the opening of possibilities, and the dissemination of implicit resources. In this perspective, literature and hypnosis share a non-directive stance, capable of accompanying experience without imposing direction.
