Starting from the case of Civita di Bagnoregio, this article discusses how the diffusion of platforms such as Airbnb or Tripadvisor impacts upon the commodification and turistification of places. The idea is that the digital ecosystem that increasingly mediates our relation with space does not merely substitute the traditional intermediaries and mediators. Digital platforms introduce instead their own logics, which can be fully understood only by looking at their ways of extraction and accumulation of value. The aim of this article is to provide a preliminary and partial map to understand these logics, their spatial effects, and how they translate into dangerous forms of technological, economic and symbolical capture.
Keywords: Platform capitalism; peer-to-peer; tourist imaginaries
