The factory is analyzed here as a social space in which collective vulnerability results in spatial and symbolic boundaries. The ethnographic research conducted in several companies in the leather district of Arzignano shows how the tannery is not only the place where the identities of national and foreign workers are mutually constructed, but such working space progressively becomes internalized principle of justification and of conferring meaning to the foreign migrant workers presence. .
