Following the akp victory election (2002), Turkey has experienced a deep political, social and cultural transformation. The wave of change has not spared the pillars of traditional Kemalist identity. By using center-periphery cleavage, this study analyses the centrality of the educational system, mainly history programmes, in the national identity formation, both Kemalist and Erdog˘anist.
