The betrayed vocation. “Metempsychotic the group?”, the article written by Luigi Pagliarani in 1983 marks the passage, a discard in his thought as integrating Bion’s thought with the Jaques’ one reproaches this latter not having considered, with respect to the organizational and groupal dynamics the two modalities in which relationships are structured within them, distinguishing between: “basic assumption group” and “working group”. In other words, Jaques would have “ignored Bion’s lesson”. In fact, when the organizational defenses are strongly encysted, the interpretation may be inef-fective or even impractical; in these cases it is necessary to stimulate in the group a change of evolutionary type. The protomental state based on indistinctness is, by its very nature, open to change. This opening, intersecting the work group, in a dialectical (and not antagonistic) relationship, can cause, hence the metaphor of metempsychosis, the death of a form (a way of being of the organization), to create another never experi-enced before.

Keywords: metempsychosis, group, basic assumptions, working group, complementari-ty, transformation.
