This contribution examines the evolution of the anthropic landscape in the Simeto River Valley, with a particular focus on the agricultural and infrastructural transformations that have shaped the territory. By analyzing contemporary activism processes, the paper highlights how memory and history, valorized within the framework of ecomuseums, can serve as effective tools for the construction of participatory territorial governance practices. In this context, the case of the Simeto Ecomuseum is proposed as an emblematic response to the environmental and social challenges faced by the inner areas of Sicily.

Keywords: Ecomuseum, Collective Memory, Participatory Governance, Inner Areas, Simeto River.
