After the environmental turn of the fields of design and town planning, today there is a need for a more in-depth analysis and reflection on the possible intersections, convergences and dialogue with environmental history. The first two chapters offer an analysis of the evolution of the Italian debate on environmental history in relation to the history of the theory and practices of the fields of environmental and ecological planning design in Italy. The last three chapters focus on concrete cases of experimentation with such disciplinary intersections.

Keywords: Environmental history, Ecology of design; Southern Italy; environmental justice; action research; transdisciplinary knowledge.
