Evidence of many studies shows how the occurrence of a disease has a negative impact on various aspects of the patient's life and his family. This study took into account the needs of family caregivers, and also tried to analyze the territorial resources made available by the welfare system in a health district placed in the North-Eastern region of Italy. The research involved 89 caregivers of patients took in charge by the oncology day hospital and the home palliative care service. The methods used were the following: socio-anagraphic questionnaire, Distress Thermometer and Carer Support Needs Assessment Tools, in order to measure the needs of the patients, their level of distress and to recognize the needs of the caregivers and the level of burden they were experimenting. The results highlight how the absence of the availability of social workers in wards or services other than home palliative care has negative effects on the family. A need for psychosocial support emerges, which can ease the burden on the family caregiver. The findings converge in stressing that the use of social workers in oncology departments should become systematic.
In the web society, while e-patient is growing and patients' participation at online communities is increasing, doctors are more and more present on the web and they use social media to communicate with patients, especially in case of chronic diseases, such as diabetes. The article is about a qualitative research (in-depth interviews with Italian diabetologists) aimed at exploring the use of WhatsApp in the relationship between diabetes doctor and diabetic patient, highlighting advantages, disadvantages and risks perceived by health professionals. Finally, it reflects on the opportunity to institutionalize social media, recognizing them as important working tools in the healthcare system.
This contribution focuses on how technologies can be used to allow workers to gain more control over their working conditions and above all health conditions within the work environment, where digital tools are changing processes and redefining activities. In the first par-agraph the author introduces the concept of empowerment of the person, trying to shape it in the specific context, also offering an overview of the need to guarantee safety to workers. The second paragraph is a review of the main technological solutions that can be adopted for this purpose, with an analysis of their characteristics. Finally, before the conclusion, the main problems that can slow down or stop the adoption of technological solutions to support em-powerment are discussed.
The article lists the main effects of the new "Industry 4.0" paradigm on the health and safety of workers and provides a sociological interpretation, on the basis of the utmost recent interna-tional literature. The results highlight how the large-scale diffusion of "smarts factories" is profoundly changing the type and measure of work-related risks: while some of them are de-creasing, new ones are arising. The overall result is not at all obvious and the Social Sciences are just at the beginning of a fundamental critical path on this theme.
Digital technologies have radically transformed our everyday life. These technologies now appear as physical and cognitive prostheses that give meaning and continuity to our actions, changing places, contexts and socio-economic and organizational processes. The keyword is "digital innovation". It is so pervasive and disruptive it dominates every space of discussion about the present and the future of our society. The essay deals with the issue of digital trans-formation by declining its possible applications in the health sector about the Italian situation, intending to reflect on innovation as a process. The essay starts with an intervention training project that represented the occasion for ethnography-organizational research, the immaterial dimensions that are the backdrop to the innovative processes in the organization.
The article provides an historical analysis of the concept of health. On these basis, it is possi-ble to deconstruct institutional conceptions of health and shows the salience of prevention and health promotions in these narratives. On these basis, it is proposed to connect sociological theories of health inequalities with institutional definitions of health. Sociology of health can provide several insights for the analysis of health promotion activities in connection to health inequalities. Specifically, inequalities can be analysed taking into account life course perspec-tives; socio-economic status; risk factors model. structural violence. Less conventionally, an-other framework that could be integrated with the sociological studies on health inequalities and illness is the one proposed by Arthur Kleinman. On these basis, empirical research should be carried out in order to test the reliability of the two models. .
The increase in social inequality, the difficulties in activating work, the risks of exclusion are growing phenomena, which have an impact on the health conditions of citizens. The essay carries out an analysis of the evolution of the social condition in Italy through the relationship between person and work, highlighting the phenomena and the consequences that are deter-mined, also on health conditions, with reference to socio-economic changes and verifying the impact of some intervention measures that have been adopted. The author examines in particu-lar three different aspects, to be considered interesting as "measurers" of the phenomena: the income of citizenship for social inclusion, the measures of corporate health welfare for the condition of well-being at work and the prevention measures with respect to accident phenom-enon verified by INAIL regarding safety and health.
