Il corpo trasparente: biopotere e biosapere nella società dei consumi

SALUTE E SOCIETÀ

Fascicolo: 2 / 2008

The transparent body: bio-power and bio-knowledge in the consumer society ABSTRACT: Proposing a sociological and comprehensive model that can understand the historical and social conditions which made possible for man to build himself as an object of reflexivity, Gomes suggests that the perspective of the body like an unitary being should be abandoned. Instead of speaking about an entity intrinsic to the body it is suggested that the body is the result of a specific body regime. This paper analyses this regime in the health-context through a theoretical approach based on Foucault’s concept of governmentality the techniques and processes through which expert knowledge constitutes normalized bodies and subjectivities and technologies of subjectivity a set of ethical techniques about itself which has in the subjectivity its own effect.

From Individual Harmony to Social Ecology ABSTRACT: Recently, Western society has increased its interest towards the so-called oriental disciplines. This essay analyzes reasons for this change from a historical and sociological prospective. As oriental sports are linked to the concept of holistic health they could help to build a lasting form of social ecology.

Three Tricycles ABSTRACT: Giulio Bizzaglia explores the conceptions of health: physiological health, psychologic- mental health, relational-social health. Sport experience is considered as an occasion of positive self-bulding, Strong emphasis is given to the changes occurred in the last decades in the debate on the body. In this sense, positive signs are found in government interventions in some countries and in innovations introduced by underground youth culture.

Naufraghi nel tempo. Il benessere mentale in un’epoca di transizione

SALUTE E SOCIETÀ

Fascicolo: 2 / 2008

Wrecked in time. The Mental Wellness in a Transition Period ABSTRACT: The essay analyses the pursuit of mental well-being by individuals in the postmodern transition. This well-being is found in the images of the athletic body conveyed by the mass-media. Yet, adaptability to a continuously changing life causes an excess of self-constriction. It is shown how sport reduces the stress by offering itself as a powerful therapeutic machine.

La sportivizzazione della salute

SALUTE E SOCIETÀ

Fascicolo: 2 / 2008

Sportization of Health ABSTRACT: The essay shows how the phenomenon usually defined as sportization is connected with widespread transformations regarding aesthetics, ethics and values in the transition from modernity to postmodernity. Step by step physical efficiency has been not only involved in the production of meaning linked to seduction and desire, but also represented as a new virtual right of citizenship. Moving from the philosophy of the so-called sport for all, the concept of fitness is developed in the direction of wellness. At the same time the social representations of health and illness are connected with new emerging cultural patterns.
